Independent Projects - 2020 Sexual Respect Initiative

Choose a project that aligns with your interests or professional development goals, to do either on your own or with a small group! Write to communitycitizenship@columbia.edu for details or to submit your proposal by October 16.

Create a Video

Create a three- to five-minute video featuring students from Columbia explaining why sexual respect matters. Your video must include information about at least one on-campus resource (e.g., Columbia Health’s Sexual Violence Response [SVR], or the Sexual Respect website). Write to communitycitizenship@columbia.edu for details.

Host a One Love 'Escalation' Workshop

Gather your friends, residence hall, or club/student organization for a conversation based on the 45-minute film "Escalation." As a group, discuss how to recognize the warning signs of relationship abuse and intimate partner violence, and ways you can help a friend. The Office of University Life will help to coordinate a trained student facilitator from the One Love Foundation to lead the discussion. Write to communitycitizenship@columbia.edu for details.

Written Reflection on Fieldwork or Clinic Assignment

Are you participating in a fieldwork or clinic assignment in sexual health, crisis counseling, or gender-based misconduct prevention as part of your Columbia degree program? Complete a written reflection of 500-750 words sharing what you learned and recognizing campus-based resources. Write to communitycitizenship@columbia.edu for details.

Become a Sexual Respect Ambassador

Sexual Respect Ambassadors help spread the word, engage with student leaders and contribute ideas to the Sexual Respect and Community Citizenship Initiative. If you successfully complete the Ambassador requirements it will fulfill the Sexual Respect and Community Citizenship Initiative requirement. Write to communitycitizenship@columbia.edu for details.

Design Your Own Project

Have an idea that isn’t included above? No problem! Students can design their own projects that fulfill the goals of the Initiative and highlight Columbia's core value of Sexual Respect. Write to communitycitizenship@columbia.edu for details.
