Sexual Respect Initiative
A Message from Executive Vice President for University Life Suzanne Goldberg:
Sexual respect is a commitment.
It is a commitment to communicating and acting with integrity and respect for others.
It is also a commitment to each of us doing what we can to create an environment where sexual and gender-based misconduct is not tolerated. As members of this University community, we have the ability – and the responsibility – to create and support an ethic of care and mutual respect, even amidst our robust differences.
It starts with us.
The Sexual Respect and Community Citizenship Initiative, created by students, faculty and administrators, asks students to examine the link between sexual respect and membership in the Columbia community.
Why is this important? It is one way Columbia community members can create and promote a campus climate among undergraduates and graduate students that reinforces sexual respect and rejects sexual harassment, sexual assault and other forms of gender-based misconduct.
The participation options offer new skills and knowledge that can prompt or enhance your contribution to this change.
All Columbia students are strongly encouraged to participate. All new are required to participate. The Sexual Respect Initiative begins September 19, 2016.
