Decoding Manhood and Masculinity

October 20, 2021
12:00 PM - 1:30 PM
America/New_York
Dodge Hall, 2960 Broadway, New York, NY 10027

FOR SCHOOL OF THE ARTS STUDENTS ONLY

Through media and facilitated discussion, participants of this workshop will identify dominant narratives of masculinity and explore how these narratives shape their experiences and interpersonal relationships. Using segments from actor Justin Baldoni’s Web Series, Man Enough, participants will develop an understanding of masculinity through cultural, generational, and institutional differences and how these expectations can impact power-based personal violence and societal violence. Ultimately, participants will be able to articulate counter narratives of masculinity and plan for how they can support these counter narratives within their everyday lives, interpersonal relationships, and community making at Columbia. This workshop is open to all gender identities. Led by SVR

Please note, this satisfies the sexual respect requirement of the 2021 Community Citizenship Initiative.
